No need for any adjustments at all. The lighter build and
smaller ballast ratio makes a nice light boat that tacks easily
and goes fast to windward and reaching. I'm very happy with
the outcome.

I decided to use the 90 m sails on the
MP1 and make some new light sails for
the light boat (MP2)
I'm using 70m drafting film and fluro
yellow reinforcing.
I made a new lighter
boom for the MP2 and
fitted a counterweight to
help with wing and wing
running
The charge wire
plug is stuck with
velcro to the
bulkhead inside the
hole.
The ESC will be attached to
the bulkhead with more
velcro, next to the charge
plug.
(It's fitted and working)
The prop went on after
all as I got tired of being
becalmed on quiet days.
I decided to increase
the size of the rudders
on the Magpies to
improve the heavy
weather, off the wind
steering a bit.

I redesigned the fore hatch on my latest Magpie and
decided to upgrade the hatch on this one too. I cut out the
larger rectangle hole in the deck and cut a suitable piece
of plastic sheet that I get from the hobby shop. It's meant
for windows and plane canopies etc and is flexible. The
ideal material to glue to the cut-out deck piece and to sit
snugly on the curved deck to keep spray out.
The pics show what I mean.

I decided to give her  full
respray.

More painting done
Finally a magpie that's in magpie
colours!
13 June 06

I finished her off with a little magpie
bird emblem under the window of the
hatch.
Blue deck hatch covering on and
ready to rock and roll once again!

I re rigged her today with some
nice new blocks and things and I
think she shines like a pin!!
Eye candy if I do say so!

Fitting the rudder post and thwart. The thwart is made from spruce and is
very light. I attached it with epoxy glue. The propshaft tube is fitted in the
third photo too. It'll be sealed off with silicone for possible future use.
The motor mounting is fitted
for possible later use.

I cut a hand sized (just) hole in the deck to
access the motor and covered it with
sticky-back. I put a rim of flowcoat around
where the patch sticks to stop paint damage.
A flock of sails
I tested the new Magpie
rudders at HBYC Opening Day
and they both sailed
beautifully! It blew between 5
and 28 knots too.

With the new larger
easy access hatch
The white rimmed hatch lifts up to get at
the charge wire or put your arm in to
change Xtals. The blue covering at the
back (like MP22) has a window in it so
you can see what you're doing with the
receiver or battery pack etc without a
need to remove it.
