I covered the hull form with masking tape and then a layer of Silkspan and dope, like used on model aeroplanes. It was now ready for fibreglassing and fairing to make the basic hull. I then removed the frames and silkspan/tape etc and cleaned up the inside before making the deck and cabin. I used some of the MDF frames as templates for permanent strengthening plywood frames and bulkheads.
The first layer of glass.
The hull ground back and with a coat of resin filler. It looks like an iced cake!
Seeing how much lead it needs.
Melting the lead with a cast iron pan and camp stove.
The (Plug) hull and the mould I made from it. I made the plug into a boat and then made a sister ship from the mould.
The prop and shaft are in.
Building the rudder from the mould I made from a balsa plug.
The rudder and it's tube and thwart are in and the motor is almost done. The steering servo is next.
Testing the trim before fitting the internals.
Wired up for a sea trial at Surrey Park. It handled very well under power. Now to deck her out and rig up for a sail.
The inwales (deck supports) are in.
Fitting the deck
A taped up mould for the fore hatch
